The implant industry has a small number of well-established manufacturers whose products are used by specialists worldwide and have extensive peer-reviewed clinical evidence behind them. The most widely referenced in the context of full-arch implant treatment are:

Nobel Biocare

Nobel Biocare (part of the Envista group) is one of the most widely cited implant brands in the clinical literature and has been a major player in the field for decades. Their Nobel Active and Nobel Replace systems are commonly used for full-arch implant work. Nobel Biocare implants are distributed globally, meaning compatible prosthetic components are available in the UK and most other countries. This matters enormously for patients treating abroad — any UK implant dentist can order Nobel Biocare parts.

Straumann

Straumann (Swiss-headquartered) has one of the most extensive bodies of clinical evidence of any implant brand, with decades of published data on osseointegration success rates and long-term bone stability. Their BLT (Bone Level Tapered) and BLC systems are frequently used in full-arch applications. Like Nobel Biocare, Straumann components are globally available, and the brand is recognised and supported by implant specialists in the UK.

Dentsply Sirona

Dentsply Sirona's Astra Tech and Ankylos implant lines have strong clinical evidence and are used by many European specialists. They are less ubiquitous globally than Nobel or Straumann but are recognised systems with available components in the UK.

Osstem

Osstem is a South Korean manufacturer that has become one of the most widely used implant brands globally by volume — particularly in Turkey and Eastern Europe. Osstem implants have a growing body of clinical evidence, competitive pricing compared to the European premium brands, and good global component availability. They are considered a credible alternative to the European premium brands and are used in reputable clinics across Turkey. Not quite as extensively researched as Nobel or Straumann but substantially better documented than purely local alternatives.

Why Brand Matters When Treating Abroad

When you have All-on-6 implants placed in Turkey, Hungary, or anywhere outside the UK, you will return home and eventually need some form of prosthetic maintenance — at minimum, a replacement prosthesis after some years, and potentially component adjustments before that. The ability of a UK dentist to carry out this work depends entirely on whether compatible components are available for the specific implant system in your jaw.

This is the practical consequence of implant brand choice that patients often do not consider at the point of booking. A UK implant dentist working with Nobel Biocare or Straumann implants can readily order the specific abutment, prosthetic cap, or connecting component needed. If the implant brand is one distributed primarily in Turkey and not through UK suppliers, the UK dentist either cannot do the work or has to improvise with non-ideal components — both of which are unsatisfactory outcomes.

For full-mouth rehabilitation, where both arches may have up to 12 implants total, the importance of this is magnified. Any prosthetic work over the following 20 years — and there will be some, because prostheses wear and need eventual replacement — requires compatible components. Choosing a mainstream brand upfront eliminates this problem.

Budget Brands and Their Risks

Some Turkish clinics — particularly those competing at the lower end of the price spectrum — use implant brands that are manufactured locally or distributed only within a limited region. These are often not individually named in quotes; the clinic may simply describe them as "high quality European implants" or similar vague descriptions without providing the brand name.

The risks with lesser-known brands are twofold: first, the evidence base for their long-term performance is much thinner than for the established manufacturers; second, components are often only available through the original clinic or country, making future UK prosthetic work very difficult.

The price difference between a Nobel Biocare or Straumann package and a budget-brand package in Turkey is often £500 to £1,500 per arch — a meaningful sum, but one that needs to be set against the risk of being unable to have compatible prosthetic work done in the UK for the rest of the implants' lifespan.

What Documentation to Request

Before leaving the clinic after surgery, you should request — and receive — the following:

• Implant passport — a formal record of every implant placed, including the brand, product line, model designation, diameter, and length. This should be provided per arch or per implant.
• Lot/batch numbers — these allow the authenticity of the implants to be verified with the manufacturer.
• Abutment specifications — the exact abutment type used, which determines what prosthetic components are compatible.
• Post-operative X-rays — showing the implants in position, useful for future monitoring.
• A full written treatment summary — including what was done, any bone grafting performed, medications prescribed, and follow-up instructions.

If the clinic refuses or is unable to provide these, that is a significant problem. This documentation is standard clinical practice at any reputable implant clinic worldwide.

How to Verify What You Were Told Was Used

After surgery, you can verify implant authenticity through several routes. Nobel Biocare and Straumann both have dedicated customer service lines that can verify whether a lot number corresponds to a genuine product. Osstem has similar verification processes. You can also ask the clinic for photographs of the implant packaging taken before the surgery — many reputable clinics photograph these as part of their surgical documentation.

If you have any doubt, the post-operative X-rays can sometimes be reviewed by a UK implant specialist who may recognise the implant design and dimensions, though this is less reliable than documentation from the clinic.

What UK Dentists Can Work With Post-Treatment

If you return to the UK with a Nobel Biocare, Straumann, Dentsply Sirona, or Osstem implant system, an experienced UK implant dentist can work with you. They can carry out routine monitoring, manage any prosthetic adjustments, and order new prosthetic components when needed.

Finding a UK dentist willing to provide ongoing care for overseas implants is worth doing before you travel. Some UK implant dentists decline to manage overseas cases on principle; others are happy to do so given the full documentation from the treating clinic.
